About the publisher
Zhejiang Juvenile and Children's Publishing House serves young readers and publishes in areas such as early-childhood learning, children's literature, popular science, and family education. Among the 18 titles in our collection, the "Dreamy Little Princess" series by Jiu Jin is particularly well represented, including Purple Nocturne, Searching for the Lost Map, the Enchanted Undersea Palace, and The Real and Fake Prince, most of which fall under inspirational growth, reflecting the publisher's focus on children's literature and growth-themed reading. About the author
Shen Shixi, whose original name is Shen Yiming, traces his ancestral roots to Cixi, Zhejiang, and was born in Shanghai in 1952. In 1969 he was sent to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, where he lived for thirty-six years; this experience on the frontier became an important source for his later animal fiction. He began writing in the 1980s and has long focused on animal stories. His representative works include The Dream of the Wolf King, The Seventh Hound, and The Last War Elephant. Several of his works have been included in Chinese language textbooks, and he is known as the "King of Chinese Animal Fiction." His animal stories are mostly set against natural landscapes, with delicate narration that emphasizes animal behavior and emotion, combining storytelling with knowledge and exerting a wide influence on young readers. Public information is limited, and few details of his life can be verified.
