Seeking Immortality

Seeking Immortality is a xianxia cultivation novel by He Buyu and the concluding work of his "Silent Immortal Trilogy" (Seeking the Immortal Path, The Immortal-God Exchange, Seeking Immortality). It began serialization on Chuangshi Chinese Network in September 2013 and was later serialized simultaneously on Qidian Chinese Network. The book runs about 4.62 million characters; Chapter 1600, "Grand Finale: The Threefold Heavenly Court," concluded it in February 2016, and no print edition has yet been published. Opening with the line "Vast and distant the path of seeking immortality, long and deep the heart that asks the Way," the novel tells of a dream-chasing youth who is neither a loser nor a genius. With a mysterious bronze mirror, he arrives in another world and begins at the Kuanglu Mountains, where he enters the Opening Light stage, takes a master, and learns talismans. He goes on to undergo trials at the Tianshan immortal sect and the underground tomb city, pursuing the Way with perseverance amid alternating adventures and crises. The book uses its own system of cultivation realms: the first realm, "Cultivation," is divided into Opening Light, Qi Channels, Spirit Roaming (Foundation Building), Dharma Form, and True Body; the second realm comprises Primordial Spirit, Spirit Body, Great Vehicle, and Tribulation Crossing; the third extends to Jade Immortal, Upper Immortal, Great Immortal, and even Golden Immortal and Heavenly Immortal, forming a complete progression from the human world to the spirit world and the immortal world. The secret of the bronze mirror and the "Scripture of Defying Immortality" run through the whole book and are the core clues to the protagonist's origins and cultivation fortunes. The pacing mainly follows the ordinary-person style of fighting monsters and leveling up, supplemented by cultivation details such as talismans, magic treasures, and restrictions, making it suitable for readers who prefer steady, step-by-step progression xianxia.
