About the author
Gao Xiaosong was born in Beijing on November 14, 1969, with ancestral roots in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. He is a mainland Chinese musician, songwriter, producer, director, talk-show host and writer. He is best known as a representative figure of campus folk music, and his song "My Deskmate" was widely sung. He later hosted programs such as Xiaoshuo and Xiaosong Qitan, attracting wide attention with his personal style of narration. As a writer, he has published works including Ru Sang and Yu Yang Ye Shi, which mostly deal with personal memories, experiences of growing up, and miscellaneous reflections on history and culture. His prose is colloquial, blending narration with commentary, and carries a distinct personal style. His prose collection Wuhan, Jian Zi Ru Mian responds to the circumstances of its time in text, continuing his customary essayistic expression. Overall, his writing, like his music and programs, emphasizes a personal perspective and accessible expression, and has had a certain influence among readers.
