Mold Demon

Mold Demon is a sci-fi apocalyptic-crisis web novel by Landi Meichen, serialized on the "Impossible World" platform from April 18, 2017 to its conclusion on June 24, 2022. It runs 589 chapters and roughly 1.8949 million Chinese characters, with Chen Fengshi as the protagonist. The story begins with a meteor. People make wishes on it as usual, but this meteor brings a nightmare. Humanity, long accustomed to seeing itself as foremost among all living things, realizes with horror for the first time that stronger creatures have always existed, unknown to anyone; against their power, all life—humans included—is like "food." The Mold Demons brought by the meteor ignite terror, but also awaken a vital force in certain people. These become the Awakened, able to see the Mold Demons hidden among the crowds and fight them. They form the Demon Extermination Society and wage a long struggle against Mold Demon forces such as the New Lord of Xuancheng, the Clear Stream Group, and the Northern Society, passing through key episodes such as the Mushui Border Town incident and Dabai Mountain. Yet the Awakened face a fatal predicament: the truth they see cannot be proven to others, so instead of gaining more help they endure widespread misunderstanding and suspicion. Even so, they cannot give up—because their perseverance is humanity's hope of overcoming the terror. The novel sets its contest of power between humans and Mold Demons against a surreal backdrop, focusing on how the Awakened find a way to survive when they "cannot prove the terrible truth," interwoven with the emotional threads of Chen Fengshi and others, and concludes with Chapter 589, "Everlasting Love, Everlasting Memory."
