Breach Vol. 3

This third issue of Breach was published in March 2005 and is the third of eleven issues in the DC Comics series Breach (2005–2006), written by Bob Harras, penciled by Marcos Martin, inked by Alvaro Lopez, and colored by Javier Rodriguez. The main thread of this issue is Breach (Major Tim Zanetti) leaving U.S. Army custody and traveling to South Africa to investigate the origin of his mutation: twenty years earlier, a military experiment called Project Otherside tore open a dimensional barrier and transformed him into a half-human, half-passage being who can only suppress the energy within him with a special containment suit. Breach's trail, however, draws the attention of the reorganized and resurgent terrorist organization Kobra; the two sides clash, and he must grope for the limits of his abilities in the field without systematic training. Meanwhile, he intersects with the DC Universe's superhero community, drawing the attention of the Watchtower side—the Justice League, based on the moon. Within the whole of Breach, this issue plays the role of advancing "investigation and pursuit," weaving together military conspiracy, other-dimensional invaders, and Breach's identity anxiety, with the characters' fates heading toward irreversible rupture. This is a 32-page full-color single issue, an experiment in the mid-2000s as DC tried to shape an unconventional hero.
