Red Wolf Vol. 1

This volume is the first installment of Marvel's Red Wolf series. Red Wolf is a Native American superhero under the Marvel banner, first appearing in 1970's Avengers #80. Following the 2015 "Secret Wars" event, Marvel launched a new solo series starring Red Wolf, written by Nathan Edmondson, drawn by Dalibor Talajić, with Native American artist Jeffrey Veregge serving as cover and character design consultant. The story begins in the "1872" Western timeline: in the frontier town of Timely, where villains run rampant, the fallen Sheriff Steve Rogers leaves a position that only Red Wolf of the Cheyenne can fill. He has faced off against Mayor Wilson Fisk in the desert, maintaining order through wit, fists, and an unshakable sense of justice. The first volume establishes the character with a gunpowder-charged Western opening and, at its close, hurls him into entirely unfamiliar territory through a mysterious adversary and a sudden transformation. As the series opener, this volume lays out Red Wolf's origins and style: he has no super-strength and relies on no high-tech gadgets, but on keen senses, hunter's instincts, and a devotion to protecting his people. The art is clean and crisp, with covers bearing the woodcut and printmaking feel of Native American art—a distinctive attempt in Marvel's "All-New, All-Different" era.
