About the author
Peter Drucker (1909–2005) was born in Vienna, Austria, and moved to the United States in 1937. A management consultant, educator, and writer, he is widely regarded as the father of modern management. Through his writing and consulting, he helped establish management as a teachable practice and introduced influential ideas such as management by objectives and the knowledge worker. His major works include The Practice of Management, The Effective Executive, Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices, Adventures of a Bystander, and The Age of Discontinuity. His books combine depth of thought with practical concern and span management, social science, and finance. In 2002 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Joseph A. Maciariello is an author associated with classic works in management studies, but public information about him is very limited: his nationality, dates of birth and death, and educational background are not clearly documented. What can be confirmed is that two Chinese-language management works appear under his name: Management (Management Classics Series, Revised Original Edition, Volume Two) and The Practice of the Effective Manager (Management Classics Series). Judging from the titles and the series positioning, these works are classic readings on organizational management and managerial practice, emphasizing the exposition of management principles and their connection with the actual work of managers. They are intended mainly for business managers, management students, and general readers interested in management classics. Because detailed biographical and academic information is lacking, a deeper assessment of his writing style and personal contributions is difficult; nevertheless, the inclusion of his works in a management classics series suggests some reference value in the organization and dissemination of management knowledge.
