Farming Jade

Farming Jade is an urban-life web novel by Dao San, first serialized on Qidian on January 5, 2012 and completed on January 20, 2013. It runs about 707,900 Chinese characters across 303 chapters and was once recommended by Qidian's Sanjiang channel. The story centers on a young man named Liu Hai, who unexpectedly obtains a jade pendant containing a space in which lies a plot of land whose soil has wondrous properties. Using this special soil, Liu Hai develops a one-of-a-kind miraculous fertilizer; outsiders know only its effects, never its source, and gradually come to regard him as a mysterious and awe-inspiring figure—a "farmer" and a "hermit." The book is divided into six volumes—"Tree of Merit," "Good Deeds Spread," "Planting Heaven Pepper," "New Farming Cooperative," "Five Village Township," and "The Law of Merit." Its plot expands from everyday farm work such as cultivating orchids and growing peppers to promoting a pepper industry, aiding neighbors, and leading a village to prosperity, with "plant causes, reap results; accumulate virtue, receive reward" as the throughline. It follows the protagonist's constant transformation and growth in pursuit of merit—a leisurely paced space-farming work focused on rural life and the theme of doing good.
