Ghosts and Spirits Resurface is a supernatural suspense novel by the web author Liu Yun Fei Du, serialized on Zongheng Chinese in 2012 and now complete. The protagonist is born with the yin-yang eye and has been able to see ghosts and malevolent spirits invisible to ordinary people since childhood. He is later taken as a disciple by the Zhuge family and studies the talismans, formations, and ghost-expelling arts of the yin-yang tradition. Once trained, he happens into Unit Seven of the National Security Bureau and becomes a "spirit investigator" who walks in the night, handling bizarre cases beyond reason and beyond scientific explanation. The story unfolds as a series of episodic investigations: from the ghost markets of Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand and the midnight five-ghost transport in a public square, to strange phenomena in the Devil's City of Xinjiang, the 1995 zombie incident, the cavern of a thousand coffins, and corpse fiends in tomb chambers. The protagonist battles mischievous and malevolent spirits again and again, seals away the four revived ancient beasts of disaster, and travels to the sacred site of Kunlun and the wonderland of Penglai. Around him gather teachers and fellow disciples of the Zhuge family, companions with extraordinary skills, and opponents of mysterious origin—allies such as the men in black and demon hunters, as well as enemies like Iga ninjas and Gestapo agents who want him dead. Writing through his own pen the experiences of his senior fellow disciple, the author fuses Chinese folk tales of the strange, feng shui and metaphysical arts, ancient mythology, and foreign mysticism into an urban supernatural world where yin and yang intertwine and ghosts loom everywhere.
