Divine Pet Evolution

Divine Pet Evolution (also known as Pet Evolution) is a fantasy novel set in another world, written by the web novelist Jiuchi Zui. It was serialized on Qidian from March 9, 2018, and completed in 2019, totaling about 1.81 million Chinese characters across 896 chapters. The story is set in a new era: after a great upheaval of heaven and earth, native plants and animals on Earth mutated and atavistically reverted at a frenzied pace, and species from other realms fell to Earth as well; humanity thus gave rise to an entirely new profession—the Beast Tamer. A Beast Tamer is one who subdues, cultivates, and trains monsters. The protagonist, Gao Peng, is a youth with dreams who is somewhat naively thrust into this golden age of danger and opportunity, growing step by step through a middle school in Chang'an City and the beast-taming circles. The book's core setting is a quality and tier system running from Common, Elite, Chief, Lord, King, Emperor, Monarch, Saint, and Quasi-God up to the Divine sequence. With his ability to perceive monsters' attributes and evolution paths, Gao Peng cultivates seemingly unremarkable low-tier monsters into powerful beings. The novel opens with the Gray-Patterned Spider incident to introduce the Beast Tamer profession, and uses a scene of the protagonist conversing with his parents' photograph to establish his motivation for growth. In his synopsis the author states that the book pays homage to Chong Mei, Pokémon, and Digimon, and is a pure pet-focused story, centered on depicting novel beasts, unfolding evolution settings, and light, passionate everyday adventures.
