Summary
The God's Spokesman is a long urban supernatural novel by web author Liehuo Anling, last updated on September 21, 2014 with its "Grand Finale." The book runs approximately 3.76 million Chinese characters. The protagonist is a delinquent about to enter a third-rate university who stumbles upon the "power of God," and his fate is completely transformed. Centered on the recurring line "Tell your brother—what is your wish?", the novel has the protagonist, after gaining divine power, dealing with campus disputes, bullying, and interpersonal conflicts while being drawn into ever more complex power struggles and conspiracies. The novel uses an episodic structure, divided into multiple "collections" such as "There Is a Realm Called Invincibility," "There Is a Bond Called Brotherhood," "There Is a Passion Called Ideals," "There Is a Touch Called Perseverance," "There Is a Strength Called Faith," "There Is a Duty Called Responsibility," and "There Is a Surprise Called Miracle," with each collection further divided into chapters. Chapter titles are mostly phrased as questions, such as "Whose Unlucky Kid Is This?", "Who Moved My Wallet," and "On What Grounds Am I Expelled?", emphasizing conflict, twists, and a teasing tone. The work alternates between campus daily life, passionate brotherhood, and themes of ideals and perseverance, following the urban power-fantasy route that Liehuo Anling excels at: the protagonist uses his extraordinary abilities to solve real-world problems while constantly facing new opponents and temptations. The book concludes in its fifteenth collection with the grand finale.
Editor's review
Who it's for
A good fit for
Not a good fit for
Reading tips
