Imperial Qi

Imperial Aura is a long-form work by web novelist Hongmeng Shu, who shifted from officialdom fiction after Official Aura to the fantasy genre. Serialized on Qidian from 2011 and completed in February 2012, the novel spans roughly 889,500 Chinese characters across 305 chapters and falls under the category of Fantasy · Otherworldly Continent. The protagonist, Jiang Zhi, transmigrates into the Great Chu Empire as a prince exiled by the imperial family, initially at the second level of Qingyun cultivation and in dire straits. Relying on his family's inherited feng shui arts and an awakened ability to observe "imperial aura," he resolves crises in the chaotic Jinling County, navigates court intrigue, and gradually establishes himself and grows. The novel fuses the author's forte for officialdom power struggles with a cultivation worldview, building a nine-tier cultivation system of Qingyun, Linguan, Dingdai, Shicheng, Weilin, Baqi, Yuanrong, Wangzhe, and Huangjie. The Qingyun tier corresponds to below the foundation-building stage, while Linguan equates to foundation building; only upon reaching Linguan does one possess the basic qualification to "hold office." The mid-to-late plot expands to the contest over a mysterious stone tower, the discovery of an ancient teleportation array, the unification of Chu, and entanglement in starry-sky battlefields and the wars of ten thousand races, further touching on the nature of the immortal and mortal realms, the abundance of immortal spiritual qi, and the struggle over planetary fortune. The book features a self-created cultivation technique as the protagonist's formidable weapon and adopts a dual-thread structure of court intrigue and starry immortal realms, balancing warfare, the contest for fortune, and emotional portrayal. It is a transformative work that writes "qi"—an intangible substance—into cultivation and destiny.
