Catwoman #32

This volume collects issue #32 of the New 52 Catwoman series, the third and final part of the Race of Thieves trilogy, titled Hijack. Selina Kyle is invited to an underground thieves' race hosted by Roulette, held on sovereign tribal land beyond federal jurisdiction, where the rules are little more than a formality: brawling, robbery, and sabotage are all permitted. Considering herself an underdog, Selina pulls her old friend Rat-Tail into the car mid-melee and lets him take the wheel, racing while fending off rivals closing in from all sides. Meanwhile, she is also investigating a nearly century-old murder and working with Detective Eddie Gilbright, who hired her to look into it, gradually uncovering connections between the case and the family fortune of race financier Hunter Stone, as well as a long-lost illegitimate son. Conspiracies beyond the track are closing in as well: a helicopter disguised as Interpol opens fire on the racers, and another competitor has been hired to kill his rivals. As Selina exposes these schemes one by one and draws closer to Roulette's train, she ultimately places her bet on the true winner just before the finish line, walking away with a handsome profit herself—only to board the train and discover that Roulette has already vanished. Racing, detection, and con games intertwine throughout this volume, which moves at a brisk pace and throws the protagonist's cunning and her moral limits into sharp relief amid the danger.
