The Sword of Dictatorship is a virtual-reality MMORPG novel by the web novelist Snail on the Rampage, written after his Rebirth: Thief Rules the World. It began serialization on Qidian in November 2011, runs to about 894,200 Chinese characters, and is complete. The story opens with eighteen-year-old veteran Nie Fan arriving in Yinhai by high-speed train, carrying a worn notebook his mother passed on to him—the only thing left by his father, once a top-ranked professional gamer who abruptly quit, then died, leaving behind only a vague charge and an encrypted website. To uncover the truth of his father's death, Nie Fan enters the game on its first day of open beta as a Druid, specializing in the plant talent tree. He devises unconventional combinations such as Black Oil plus Fireball, achieving level-skipping grinding and burst damage through builds others find bizarre. From the starter village onward, he accumulates gear in dungeons and field maps, establishes strongholds, joins guild intrigues, and finds companions to fight alongside, gradually drawn into the vortex where the Devil God Studio intersects with his father's past. The novel continues the author's signature "technical" approach: skill combinations, map mechanics, the economic system, and factional strife are all worked out in detail, and combat emphasizes execution and calculation rather than sheer level grinding. The protagonist's rise from a penniless youth to the top of the server forms the main line, while the real-world and in-game threads pull at each other and drive the mystery of "the father's legacy" all the way to the ending.
