The Gate of World's End

The Gate of World's End is an apocalyptic science-fiction web novel by Dark Lychee, first serialized on Qidian from 2015 and completed on May 7, 2016. It runs about 1.1 million Chinese characters across 468 chapters. At the outset, the protagonist Su Lifeng has been able to foresee disasters since childhood—but he never expected that one day a vision would show him the end of the world: in a hundred days the globe will fall, and humanity will face extinction. He wakes in shock. From that moment on, he is no longer merely a passive witness to disaster; he must race against the countdown to find a way to survive. As the plot unfolds, the apocalypse is not a single form of zombie outbreak or natural catastrophe but revolves around the invasion of "alien species" and the appearance of "gates." In the course of resistance, humanity gradually discovers that the power of the alien species can be absorbed to strengthen oneself, and from this a larger picture emerges—from "world's end" to "spatial gates" to a "multiverse." Driven by crisis, the protagonist and his companions evolve continuously, encounter higher-order "cosmic life forms," and struggle between saving themselves and saving the world. The work combines apocalyptic imaginings such as bioterror and global freezing with a "foresight—evolution—spatial gate" premise. Its pace is fast, and its power-leveling "satisfying fiction" structure carries discussions of survival, human nature, and the scientific spirit. It was selected for the 2015 China Online Novel Rankings' New Books list.
