The Mage's World

Summary
The Mage's World is a Western fantasy novel by Mo Xiang, serialized on Qidian from October 2012 and completed in 2013, totaling about one million Chinese characters. The story unfolds on a continent where swords and magic coexist: elves worship the Goddess of Life and revere the natural way; orcs were driven to the barren Red Cloud Plateau and turned to the Earth Mother; and humans, relying on their own intelligence, mastered arcane power that other races dread, step by step turning the continent into "the mage's world." The work consists of sections such as "The Young Knight" and "The Road of the Kingdom," opening in the small border town of Wildfire City: a youth awakens from a sickbed on a cold winter night, his mind flooded with streams of data and equations, and is drawn into the conflicts among nobles, knights, temples, and mages—from scraping by for food and warmth to crossing the threshold of magic and gradually rising as a powerful figure. This is a growth story in the "transmigration invincibility" mode, blending science-fiction elements with a sword-and-sorcery world, involving magical systems, mage towers, elements and laws, dragons, church theocracy, and multiple racial factions of elves and orcs. The pacing is brisk, with emphasis on adventure, leveling up, and factional maneuvering.
Editor's review
