It is a poem by the Tang dynasty writer Han Yu.

Editor's review

Han Yu's "Catkins on the Pool" centers on the scene of catkins swirling by the lakeside at sunset and poplar blossoms falling onto the water, becoming soaked and unable to fly again; it first describes scenery and then turns to analogy, revealing ingenuity in the details. The work combines the charm of natural scenery with the subtle turning point in the fate of the object, offering both visual delight and implicit philosophical interest, demonstrating Han Yu's skill in refining meaning in short landscape poems. This book serves as a sample for appreciating detail in Tang poetry, helping readers understand how classical poetry distills poetic meaning from ordinary phenomena. While reading, pay attention to the contrast between "flying" and "unable to fly," and the technique of transitioning from scenery to analogy. The work is short and suited to careful, slow reading rather than macro-level research.
