Venom #7
Tags
Summary
This volume is issue #7 of the Venom series (2011–2013), a tie-in installment of Marvel's "Spider-Island" event. At this point the Venom symbiote is bonded to Flash Thompson, the "Agent Venom," who carries out secret missions under assignment from the U.S. government as a frontline operative controlled by the military. During Spider-Island, New Yorkers gain spider-like powers after being bitten by special spiders, and some even mutate into spider-shaped monsters; Venom is therefore sent deep inside Project Rebirth to eliminate the infected. One of his targets is an old adversary, Anti-Venom, who is bonded with Eddie Brock: Anti-Venom's body is made of special antibodies and can theoretically cure those infected by the spider virus, so Eddie poses as a savior in a church, "healing" citizens. Venom and Anti-Venom promptly erupt into a symbiote-versus-symbiote showdown. Meanwhile, the story also intersperses Flash's farewell to his dying father in the hospital, adding a heavy note of human drama to the issue's action. Overall, while fulfilling its task as an event tie-in, this volume stays closely tied to Flash's personal situation and trauma as the Venom host.
Editor's review

Reading tips
