Summary

This volume is the second collected edition of Marvel's 2014 Deathlok series, corresponding to issues #6–10 of the original run (collected under the title Deathlok: Man Versus Machine, containing Deathlok 2014 #6-10). The story picks up the threads of Control and the biotech corporation: Henry Hayes—outwardly a battlefield doctor saving lives, secretly used as a cyborg killing machine called Deathlok—finally learns who he is and what he has become. When Control loses its grip on him, he is sent on a mission he cannot accept, and begins to fight back against his former manipulators. Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Andrea Hope, seeking to get close to Hayes, targets his daughter and enlists an unexpected ally: former Deathlok Michael Collins. Another wild card is Domino, working for A.I.M. With two Deathloks in one room, and S.H.I.E.L.D., the biotech corporation and his own predecessor closing in, Hayes has almost only one path left: to die. This volume continues the dual theme of technology and humanity, and amid the chase and espionage pacing asks: how much choice can a person shaped by programs and commands still keep for himself?
