The Beginning of Wuxia

The Beginning of Wuxia is an urban-life web novel by Liu Shaochong, serialized on Qidian, totaling about 3.04 million words in 1,424 chapters and now complete. The protagonist, Lin Mu, is reborn into a parallel world with a "Memory Palace." This palace houses a vast collection of literary works and wuxia novels from Earth; by accumulating reputation points, he can exchange them for works and "bring" them before readers in this world. The story begins with Lin Mu submitting a manuscript to the magazine Wuxia Stories: it is accepted, he receives payment, his reputation soars, and he makes a name for himself in the wuxia literary world with works such as A Deadly Secret and Ode to the Gallantry. He then uses "internal-energy-style" wuxia to shake up this world's somewhat barren landscape of popular literature. As books like The Smiling, Proud Wanderer and The Legend of the Condor Heroes appear one after another, he transforms from a newcomer submitting manuscripts into a literary figure courted by readers and feared by peers; the novel also unfolds multiple subplots involving campus, family, and infighting within the circle, depicting the growth and troubles brought by the reputation system. The so-called "wuxia" is only the beginning—as the title suggests, Lin Mu's journey does not stop at wuxia alone. Beyond wuxia novels, he also ventures into works of Three Kingdoms historical interpretation and even broader entertainment fields such as film and television, gradually moving from "a man who writes wuxia" toward a broader path as a creator. The book centers on the core premise of "rebirth plus book-copying plus a reputation system," combining wuxia nostalgia with the pacing of an urban power-fantasy novel.
