Gun Lord

Gun Lord is a "game-world" web novel by Qidian writer Sudden Light and Heat, serialized from October 2014 and completed on April 8, 2017, with 821 chapters and roughly 2.4548 million Chinese characters. The story is set about 2,500 years in the future: mutant beasts roam, humanity is no longer the master of the world, and people struggle to survive in city strongholds under a federal system, fighting mutated beasts with three kinds of power—firearms, martial arts, and psychic abilities. The protagonist, Tu Hao, is a veteran player of the male gunner class "Gun God" in Dungeon & Fighter and is nicknamed "Tuhao" (nouveau riche) because of the homophone. When the game updates with the male gunner's second awakening version, he tries out the class forms "Sky-Rending Wing," "Battlefield Ruler," "Destroyer," and "Mechanical Sovereign" in turn; just as he is admiring the mechanical army summoned by the Mechanic's skills, the power in his room cuts out. He reaches out to touch the still-flickering "Space Gate" screen, is sucked inside, and lands in the future world, carrying with him the skill and knowledge system of the Gunner class. Relying on his innate familiarity with firearms, his skill panel, and a portable base-like crafting ability, Tu Hao starts from the bottom as a martial artist, learning yuan force, awakening psychic powers, and crafting and modifying guns and ammunition. He gradually gains permissions at every level, enters a firearms design academy, and is drawn into multi-front conflicts involving the federal military, the psychic association, the machine race, and eventually the heavenly realm and the gates to other worlds, closing the book under the name "Gun Lord." The work blends DNF skill settings with a futuristic apocalyptic worldview and is the author's second long serial centered on Dungeon & Fighter classes after Ghostblade.
