The Ultimate Ring

The Ultimate Ring is a long urban supernatural novel by the web author "Not a Mosquito" (Bushi Wenzi), serialized on platforms such as Kanshu.com starting in 2011 and one of his representative works. The story begins with an unremarkable high school student, Li Huai: overweight and short, often mocked by classmates, with a future that seems to hold nothing but a factory job arranged by his father. By accident he obtains a mysterious ring—not merely an antique, but one that conceals a complete "cheat": it can reshape his physique and build him into shape, teach him cultivation techniques, and comes with a super learning system for mastering etiquette, music, piano, languages, finance, and other subjects. With this ring, Li Huai begins an almost absurd yet thoroughly satisfying "glamorous transformation": his changed body and looks force him to face anew the eyes of school and family, his practice of the techniques draws him step by step into the hidden world of martial artists and cultivators, and his accumulating knowledge and skills let him make money, gain a foothold, and hold his head high in real society. Set against a modern urban backdrop, the novel unfolds from the protagonist's high school life and college years through adventures in other worlds to a broader world of immortals and heroes, interspersed with monster-fighting and leveling-up, playing-the-fool and hiding-one's-strength episodes, and plenty of lighthearted comedy, with a substantial romance thread as well. Extremely long and briskly paced, it is a typical urban power-fantasy of "cheat + system + cultivation," suited to readers looking for a book they can follow over the long term and enjoy more and more as they read.
