Shadow Flow of Konoha

Shadow Flow of Konoha is a long-form derivative fan fiction web novel by Hongye Zhixuan based on the world of Naruto. It began serialization on Qidian Chinese on August 29, 2019, and was completed on June 5, 2020, totaling eight volumes, over six hundred chapters, and about 1.58 million words. The work opens with "Cremating the Hokage," starting from the battle in which the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, and the Gold and Silver Brothers perished together: the protagonist, a wandering boy, encounters the dying Second Hokage on the battlefield and is entrusted with delivering crucial intelligence back to Konoha. On the strength of this merit he barely secures a foothold in the Hidden Leaf Village, but is also used by Danzo Shimura and the village's upper echelon as bait to attract spies, and can only struggle for the greatest possible benefit for himself while powerless to change his situation. He later receives ninja training alongside the "Legendary Three Ninja"'s cohort, and though he expects to live freely, he is repeatedly drawn into war and shifts in power. Faced with fate's repeated tricks, the protagonist turns his foreknowledge into proactive maneuvering: proposing new ninjutsu theories, winning over Sakumo Hatake and the Uzumaki clan, and gradually building a force called "Shadow Flow," laying out his own chessboard within Konoha and across the entire ninja world. The book's main thread is the internal power struggles and undercurrents within Konoha, weaving together strategic maneuvering, character transformation, and interactions with original characters; the writing intersperses serious narrative with snark and lighthearted passages, and focuses on the survival rules of ninja in wartime, the fragility of institutions, and individual growth. It is one of the better-regarded plot-driven works in Qidian Chinese's "Anime·Derivative Fan Fiction" category, with over 110,000 collections during serialization.
