Series
This is issue #5 of the Starfire solo series launched by DC in 2015; the single-issue story is titled "Trouble from Every Direction." The story still centers on Starfire (real name Koriand'r) and her new life in Key West, Florida: she learns to be an "ordinary Earth person" while continuing to deal with alien visitors and local anomalies. In this issue she teams up with the hero Atlee to investigate the origin of bizarre creatures emerging from underground; meanwhile, she must also cope with other Earthly problems no easier than monsters, such as the trouble brought by a job interview and an outing date with an unexpected outcome. The series' overall tone alternates between light everyday comedy and action-adventure: Starfire frequently creates misunderstandings over social etiquette, slang, and romantic relationships in human society, yet this also makes her frank and endearing. A group of ordinary residents who live with or associate with her form a stable supporting cast and carry much of the humor and slice-of-life passages. Note that this volume is issue #5 of the series, not a complete collection; the reading experience is closer to one chapter in an ongoing serial, and the plot before and after needs to be read together with adjacent issues.

Summary

This volume is issue #5 of the Starfire solo series launched by DC in 2015, with the single-issue story titled "Trouble from Every Direction." The story remains centered on Starfire (real name Koriand'r) and her new life in Key West, Florida: while learning to be an "ordinary Earth person," she continues to deal with alien visitors and local anomalies. In this issue, she teams up with the hero Atlee to investigate the origins of strange creatures emerging from underground; at the same time, she must contend with other Earthly challenges no less daunting than monsters, such as the troubles brought on by a job interview and an outing date that ends with unexpected results. The series' overall tone alternates between lighthearted slice-of-life comedy and action-adventure: Starfire frequently creates misunderstandings around social etiquette, slang, and romantic relationships in human society, yet this very quality makes her seem candid and endearing. A group of ordinary residents who live with or interact with her forms a stable supporting cast, carrying much of the humor and slice-of-life material. It should be noted that this volume is issue #5 of the series, not a complete collection; in terms of reading experience, it is closer to a single installment in an ongoing serial, and the plot requires reading adjacent issues together for context.

Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ

「Starfire 005」
