Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars is a full-length youth novel by the web writer Wei Feng, set in the space age. The heroine and the hero each harbor a hidden identity unknown to the other; they are not close, yet they share a child born with extraordinary powers. He has searched for her for eight years, and when the two finally reunite, their once calm and stable life is thrown into turmoil, and the fog of mystery thickens layer by layer. What seems an ordinary family of three turns overnight into an emperor, an empress, and a crown prince; beneath the fairy-tale surface, undercurrents surge. The book unfolds through the first-person perspective of the robot Qiaoqiao, who calls her mistress "the beautiful lady" and notes the arrival of a "considerate and handsome gentleman" said to be the child's long-lost father. The story revolves around a group of men and women who drive maglev cars and spaceships, presenting love, friendship, and family ties in a future world, interwoven with encounters, misunderstandings, protection, and the gradual revelation of the mystery of origins. "Even a light-year's distance is nothing compared to my love for you" is the emotional keynote the novel repeatedly stresses; science-fiction setting and romance plot intertwine to form a landscape of emotion beneath the starry river. The author calls the book "a landscape of emotional reckoning," and like her earlier works Green Snake and Still Thoughts, it focuses on characters' struggles and growth in emotional choices.
