Wheel of Time

Wheel of Time is a long-form web novel by Zuiyuehai, serialized on Zongheng Chinese Network and begun around 2016. Its title and premise draw on the Buddhist Kalachakra Tantra, though the novel is not a direct adaptation of scripture; instead, it turns the notion of "the turning of time" into the story's underlying framework. The story unfolds in a world where life and death, strength and weakness are measured by "Time Wheel ranks." The youth Shi Yan awakens only a broken, incomplete "Time Abyss Body," meaning he must first hunt the "Time Beasts" whose bodies carry the laws of time, gathering his own wheel bit by bit in order to survive an order ruled by the strong. He also bears a blood debt: his family was wiped out by Burning Sky Valley, and vengeance becomes the first force driving him forward. With the Clepsydra Sword in his left hand and the Time Vessel refined in his right, he devours time wheels to extend his lifespan while investigating the truth of the massacre. Around the nine great time wheels, the story layers escalating mysteries. His childhood companion Jiang Jianxue's Li Fire Soul Mark becomes the Seventh Wheel; the astrologer girl Shen Xingyao lights the Eighth with the star-eclipse of her eyes; the enchantress Yan Mingzhu gouges out her natal foxfire to complete the Ninth; and the gatekeeper of the Seventh is Zhulong Jiuyin. Burning Sky Valley's "Thousand Sundial Soul-Locking Formation" and the Eternal Sundial worshipped by the four ancient clans are drawn into the main thread. Only when Shi Yan shatters the Eternal Sundial does he discover that the so-called "Heavenly Dao" is nothing but the Time Abyss Sundial fragmented when his own past life fell, and the seal script formed in that ghostly green fire is the missing seventh page of the Kalachakra Tantra. The book builds its power system and worldview on "time," weaving cultivation progression, family blood feud, and ancient secrets into a setting-driven Eastern fantasy.
