Boundless

Boundless is a long-running xianxia web novel by Xiaodao Fengli, serialized on Qidian from May 10, 2017 to its conclusion in March 2019. It runs roughly 3.79 million characters across more than 1,100 chapters. The story begins in 2012: the scientist Xiao Zhen deciphers a startling message from an extremely ancient jade slip, proving that the solar system once hosted a brilliant cultivation civilization. That civilization was sealed away wholesale in a cataclysm tens of millions of years ago, leaving only a broken Earth to carry on the spark of life. Xiao Zhen sells his assets and sets out alone to find the truth, vanishing for twelve years. Twelve years later, as the Dharma-Ending Age reaches its extreme and the magnetic poles shift, the world begins to change: the familiar human realm becomes unrecognizable, myth turns real, legend loses its mystery, and sects, hidden clans, and ancient beings that slept for ten thousand years emerge one after another. In the northern Chu family, the boy Chu Yu is a prodigy at six, but because a mysterious purple qi seals every acupoint in his body, the world writes him off as trash. Sixteen years later, on the summit of Mount Tai, he bathes in innate purple qi, the seals crack apart inch by inch, and he sets out on the path of seeking the source, proving the Way, and protecting the world. Through fortuitous encounters and cultivation he gradually reveals his edge, fighting alongside childhood friend Lin Shimeng, Qingqiu Xiaoyue, and Xu Xiaoxian, the enchantress of the Heavenly Demon Sect, as they uncover the truth of the ancient civilization and journey toward a broader starry sky and higher-dimensional worlds. "Eagles strike the vast sky, fish leap the dragon gate, bears roar and tigers howl—all things possess spirit": this is the theme that echoes throughout the book. The work melds spiritual-qi revival, urban cultivation, interplanar warfare, and civilizational exploration, delivered with Xiaodao Fengli's signature brisk pacing and humorous tone. The title, Boundless, points both to the vastness of heaven and earth and to the boundless limits of the human heart and hot blood.
