Boundless

Boundless is a cultivation-civilization web novel by the Yuewen Group master author Zui Hu, serialized on Qidian from May 2019; it runs about 2.7 million characters over 930 chapters and is complete. The title is also the protagonist's name. The story begins with Earth's apocalyptic crisis: zombies run rampant, order collapses, and a dark organization in the shadows rises again. Wang Wuyin, a hardened warrior who grew up amid war, is reborn into his own youth, carrying the memories and experiential advantages of his past life. With foreknowledge, he lays plans in advance and accumulates resources, avoiding impending disasters while embarking on the path of cultivation, moving from qigong practice on Earth all the way to a vaster stage among the stars, ultimately leading humanity to carve out a way to survive the apocalyptic crisis. The work's appeal lies in its mashup of "apocalypse + cultivation": there is the pressure of survival, base management, and humanity's confrontation with zombies and dark forces, as well as a leveling system woven from technology and qigong, pills, pineal gland awakening, and other settings. In an afterword-like statement, the author repeatedly stresses that the science and technology, cultivation methods, and disease treatments in the book are purely artistic fiction, and readers need not take them as corresponding to reality. It should be noted that in the later serialization, affected by a tightening creative environment, some plot developments were restrained, slightly compromising the degree of completion; overall it is still regarded by readers as an apocalyptic variation on Zui Hu's "Black Iron—Silver" style, a long satisfying read suited to a follow-the-updates mindset.
