New Gods Vol. 1

Summary
New Gods is the core work of the "Fourth World" tetralogy that Jack Kirby launched in 1971 after leaving Marvel for DC. The story begins with the fall of the "Old Gods": the ancient world that was once whole splits in two during Ragnarok—one half is New Genesis, surrounded by forests and rivers and ruled by the benevolent Highfather; the other is Apokolips, filled with roaring machines and fire pits and ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. Between them stretches a long, star-spanning war. The series protagonist Orion is Darkseid's biological son, but was sent to be raised on New Genesis from childhood, growing into a warrior still driven by battle instinct and rage on a world of peace; meanwhile Darkseid searches Earth for the deadly Anti-Life Equation, and Orion fights alongside New Genesis allies such as Lightray and Metron against enemies including Kalibak. In a near-mythic style, Kirby fuses space opera, religious allegory and superhero narrative into one of the most influential cosmic mythologies of the DC Universe. This volume is Volume 1 of the series and collects the opening portion; for specific contents, refer to the actual edition's table of contents.
Editor's review

FAQ
