Nova Vol. 19

This is Volume 19 of Marvel’s Nova (2013–2015) series, corresponding to the English original Nova (2013) #19, titled “Chapter Nineteen: Original Sin Part Two,” a tie-in chapter to Marvel’s “Original Sin” event. The story centers on Sam Alexander: after the murder of the Watcher Uatu, he grieves for the witness’s death and is drawn into the secrets revealed by “Original Sin”—Sam begins to ask whether his father, Jesse Alexander, really took part in a murder, and where the people called “Black Nova” came from. With these questions, Sam turns to Rocket Raccoon of the Guardians of the Galaxy, an older, experienced comrade who becomes the one he confides in during this low period. This volume is relatively short and focuses on building suspense and advancing the “mystery of the father” thread planted since the series began; there is less fighting and fewer big set pieces, with more emphasis on family secrets and the psychology of a young hero growing up. The English original is written by Gerry Duggan, with a cover by Paco Medina and interior art by David Baldeón. This is Volume 19 of the series; the story follows directly from Volume 18 and continues the “Original Sin” aftermath in Volume 20.
