The Entertainment Empire

The Entertainment Empire is an urban entertainment web novel by Wo Zui Bai. It began serialization on Qidian Chinese Network in January 2019 and concluded around May 2020, running about two million characters across more than nine hundred chapters. The story is set in a parallel world: the protagonist, Luo Xun, is shelved by his company for two years, then wakes after a car accident in another person's body and returns to Tianguang Entertainment. Facing his first love Zhang Suining, now one of the Four Dan Actresses, and his former manager Song Jiahao, he chooses to restart as an actor. He first wins the role of Murong Fu in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils and earns audience recognition by digging deep into the character. He goes on to appear in series such as Pink Ladies and The Lotus Lantern and films such as Kung Fu, SPL II: A Time for Consequences, and Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, and joins variety shows including We Got Married and Masked Singer; the media call him the Newcomer King of the Millennium. He aims not only to act but to wield capital: he invests in film and television projects, stockpiles copyrights, and eventually founds the Yinbai Company, moving from front-of-house Second Master to the man at the helm behind the scenes, pushing each role and himself ever higher. The main pleasure of the book lies in replaying classic film and television works in a parallel world, while also showing how an actor understands a role, how a production runs, and how projects are contested.
