Guardian of Flowers: The King of Hearts

Guardian of Flowers: The King of Hearts is an urban web novel by Tian Ge Fu Sheng, completed in full; the commonly circulated proofread edition runs to roughly 500,000 characters across more than 180 chapters. Its protagonist is the drifter Jiang Fei: once a wandering killer accustomed to living by the blade with no ties to hold him, he stumbles by chance into ordinary city life and gradually becomes the bodyguard of a campus beauty, the protector of a flight attendant, an idol in the eyes of a little girl, and the dream man of a nurse. The title points to the novel's main thread: with a martial artist's skills and temperament, Jiang Fei moves through campuses, hospitals, flights, nightclubs and other urban settings, shielding those around him from trouble and danger, and with every intervention and every maneuver he is drawn deeper into old feuds. The story runs two lines at once: on the surface, everyday flower-guarding and social ties in the city; beneath it, old scores of the martial world and the struggle among local factions and underground organizations, with Jiang Fei's skills and past constantly awakened by reality. The prose is colloquial and brisk, the conflicts dense, and the book has the unmistakable feel of a male-oriented urban power-fantasy. It closes on "Jiang Fei's Dream," giving the drifter a place to land. This entry corresponds to the widely circulated Tian Ge Fu Sheng full edition.
