Quitting Love

Quitting Love is a youth campus novel by the author Weiluo, serialized on Baidu Novel and now completed, running to about 120,000 Chinese characters. The story begins on the first day the transfer student A Ya arrives at her new school: there she meets the flamboyant campus idol Chu Yao and also Lin Ling, her half-sister. Years earlier, A Ya's father had left home and abandoned her, and it was for Lin Ling's side of the family that he did so; this childhood abandonment becomes a wound in A Ya's heart that never heals. She chooses to approach Lin Ling by "making friends first," and beneath the surface of listening, companionship, and sharing, she gradually sets her revenge in motion. Campus daily life thus grows complicated: classrooms, ball games, and the corridors during evening study all become arenas of probing and tug-of-war; Chu Yao's arrival keeps shifting the relationships among the three. Told in the first person, the novel has a cool, detached language, and its pacing does not rely on dramatic ups and downs; instead it centers on the girl's inner monologue and emotional shifts, portraying how the wounded are driven along by their own resentment and waver back and forth on the boundary between love and hate. A spoken-word audio version has been derived from the text, with slight differences in characters and details.
