Return to the Capital

Summary
After the death of Princess Yuhua's mother, before she can even recover, she is summoned back to the capital by her father, the Emperor. Facing the scheming of the court, everyone assumes this little princess is a soft, easy-to-bully pushover. After all, apart from having an emperor for a father, she is good for nothing, and cannot possibly outplay these old fossils. But is that really the case? She is the one who nearly smashed the Chancellor's house over a mere animal; she is the one who wiped out an entire Minister's clan to vent her anger; and she is the one who, in a fit of temper, publicly cursed the new Empress at the coronation ceremony. In less than two years since returning to the capital, this princess has earned a notorious reputation and a record full of misdeeds—yet no one can get the better of her. Until a handsome young lord with a most unconventional mind kneels before the Emperor, begging for a marriage decree to take the little princess as his wife.
The little princess smiles with innocent harmlessness: "Oh? Just watch me finish off the Prince Consort in no time!"
Editor's review
Who it's for
A good fit for
- Historical-romance readers who enjoy white-cut-black, commanding heroines
- Readers who prefer light intrigue with humorous contrasts and a satisfying, cathartic feel
- Readers drawn to mutual probing between princess and consort and the marry-first-love-later trope
- Casual readers who enjoy fast-paced historical romance in fragmented time
Not a good fit for
- Readers seeking rigorous court intrigue and historical accuracy
- Readers who dislike exaggerated, dramatic plots and prefer realistic storytelling
- Readers who dislike forceful heroines and mutual rivalry plots
Reading tips
- Watch for the motive behind each of the princess's “disgraces,” reading her surface arrogance against her actual scheming.
- Set the courtiers' judgment of her as a “soft bun easy to bully” beside her actual deeds to savor the pleasure of the contrast.
- Slow down after the consort's marriage request and pay attention to the details of their mutual probing dialogue.
- Read in event-based segments, pausing after each conflict to sort out shifts in characters' positions.

About the author
Shi Yin is an author about whom limited public information is available; the library currently holds only one work by this author, Return to the Capital (Gui Jing). Judging by its common classification, the work belongs to the time-travel alternate-history genre, suggesting that the author tends to build narratives around an imagined historical setting and to use the time-travel premise to drive characters and plot. Because details such as dates of birth and death, nationality, and an English name are not recorded in the library, a fuller account of the author's life and creative development cannot be given. Based on the available material, attention focuses mainly on Return to the Capital itself: its placement in the time-travel alternate-history category indicates that the author works within this framework, while the specific writing style, structure, and reader response cannot yet be assessed from existing sources. Readers may take Return to the Capital as the main entry point for understanding Shi Yin's work.
