Annual 2 is an anthology compiled under the influence of Marvel Comics and DC Comics, collecting comic works in the "annual" format. The annual is a special format in mainstream Western comics publishing: issued as a separate volume outside the regular numbering of an ongoing series, it is usually thicker and larger in format, often produced by multiple creative teams, and contains standalone short stories, side stories, character profiles, and feature columns, partaking of both the "annual special" and the "group anthology." This format lets readers see short works by multiple characters and multiple creators within a single shared universe in one volume, and crossover segments between works are also common. This is the second volume in the related series. Judging from the table of contents, it includes Superman-themed chapters and crossover content related to "Superman/Batman," as well as a portion of the Marvel Comics collection, giving the whole the appearance of a superhero ensemble with cross-title crossovers. Note that the specific contents, creator credits, and plot details of this volume are subject to the original book's copyright page and table of contents; this page offers no speculative description, to avoid conflicting with the actual contents. For readers, the experience of reading an annual anthology differs from following a long serialized run: it is better suited to "filling in gaps" and "sampling," whether to catch side stories you missed or to discover the styles of different artists. Because the pieces are relatively independent, starting with any one of them carries little continuity burden; but to understand crossover segments, some familiarity with the basic setups of the relevant characters is still needed.

Marvel Comics is an American comic book publisher founded in 1939 by Martin Goodman under the name Timely Comics. Around 1951 it was renamed Atlas Comics, and in 1961 it officially became Marvel Comics. Since 2009 it has been a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Its roster includes many superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, the X-Men and the Avengers, characters that appear not only in comics but have also become widely known through film and book adaptations. The collection holds 51 of its works, spanning categories including science fiction, inspirational growth and fine fiction, among them Avengers titles and several bilingual superhero stories that serve both English learning and reading interest.
