Zombie Brother

Zombie Brother is a long-form apocalyptic crisis novel by web author Lu Renfei, also known as My Name Is Bai Xiaofei. It was serialized on Chuangshi Chinese Network (under Tencent Literature) starting May 8, 2014, and concluded on October 14, 2015, totaling roughly 2.54 million characters. The story begins with an accidental waterworks contamination: the source turns a large portion of H City's residents into "zombie brothers" that devour one another and can continuously evolve, and the city's order collapses overnight. Ordinary young man Bai Xiaofei survives because he didn't drink the tap water; to find his girlfriend caught up in the crisis, he is forced onto a survival journey through ruins and zombie hordes. As an ordinary person, he grows increasingly overwhelmed by ceaseless fierce battles, until by chance he obtains a human enhancement serum that gradually unlocks his potential, giving him the ability to face various mutated zombie brothers head-on. Fighting and leveling up all the way, he encounters all manner of companions and enemies, gradually closing in on the mastermind behind the mutation crisis and discovering that the disaster is no accident but a conspiracy involving interests and a power struggle. The work combines zombie survival, urban adventure, and hot-blooded leveling, with tight pacing and humorous set pieces; it is one of the representative zombie-themed works in Chinese web literature and has been adapted into a comic and anime of the same name (the original comic created by Qi Duyu).
