Summary

Sealing the Demons is the only fantasy novel by web author Wu Laolang, comprising sixteen volumes and roughly 1.05 million characters, completed. The protagonist, He Hao, is a college graduate who cannot even pay his rent, arriving on the scene with only one yuan and thirty cents in his pocket, yet he unexpectedly carries two absurd identities: the strange fate of the "Hundred-Life Great Virgin" and a demon-sealing mission concerning the safety of the five realms—human, immortal, demon, god, and ghost. Nominally he is a purebred direct disciple of the immortal realm, with an illustrious roster of masters, uncles, and senior and junior brothers, yet he himself is universally regarded across the five realms as the number-one waste. The story begins with He Hao's accidental encounter with the demon-hunting girl Zhang Keke. An exorcism accident leaves him with an unpayable debt, so he works it off as her assistant and hanger-on, and from then on is drawn into urban encounters with monsters and ghosts: a haunted old mansion, the first traces of demons, sect disputes, and a chaotic battle of good and evil in the wild hills, one after another. As the "demon traces" gradually surface, Shen Qing, Qin Xiao, and others appear, and schemes, misunderstandings, and alliances around the demon-sealing mission play out in turn. Relying on his special spiritual blood and a bit of cleverness, He Hao maneuvers among the various factions and repeatedly turns the tide at the last moment. Beyond its fantasy premise, the book is wrapped in a thick layer of street-level flavor: debt collection, selling dogs, scheming sons-in-law, fretting over a thirty-million goal—trivial matters juxtaposed with immortal-demon battles, forming Wu Laolang's comic style. The story concludes with He Hao resolving crises on multiple fronts and becoming the spokesman of the human realm's spiritual-energy world, with several romantic threads ending in lively daily life.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ
