He then joins the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection system and subsequently serves as party secretary of Jingjiang City in Chujiang Province, member of the Provincial Standing Committee and secretary-general of the Provincial Party Committee, deputy party secretary of Subei Province, and governor. The novel unfolds along his trajectory, centering on concrete events such as job adjustments, personnel changes, project implementation, and local governance. It focuses on the layered officialdom ecology of Chujiang, Lingnan, and other places, using repeated games and trade-offs to show the logic of power from the grassroots to the top, and shapes a cadre who rises steadily through judgment, tact, and political wisdom.
