Perfect Form

"Perfect Form" is a post-apocalyptic evolution and mutation science fiction web novel by Shuangmuzinv, serialized on a platform under China Literature starting September 4, 2015, and completed on June 30, 2016. It comprises 666 chapters and roughly 2.06 million Chinese characters. The story opens with an enduring question: species on Earth have existed for billions of years, and crocodiles, turtles, and mosquitoes have scarcely changed over tens of millions of years, yet human evolutionary history spans only about a million years—why did only humans evolve so rapidly? And how should the blank in evolutionary theory be explained? This question is both the novel's prologue and the source of its suspense. The novel begins with energy development and deep-sea combustible ice, then quickly shifts into a "concentric circle" global mutation: awakening of supernatural powers, alternate dimensions, evolution fluid and crystal cores, mutant creatures and alien beings descending, the collapse of the old order, and survivors rebuilding settlements, defense lines, and armed forces on the wasteland. The protagonist, Du Zheng, rises from an ordinary person—joining the military and training, entering a combat team, hunting monsters, seizing crystals—struggling to grow amid rival factions and apocalyptic rules, while the motive running through his actions is a woman named Li Wanpan. Unlike typical monster-fighting, level-grinding apocalypse fiction, the book attempts to offer "plausible" explanations for supernatural powers and mutations using concepts such as quantum mechanics, time dilation, dimensional space, and string theory, and in its ending draws personal obsession together with human origins and cosmic-scale truth. The author's tone is cold and hard, and the depiction of humanity's extinction and moral disorder in the apocalypse is direct and brutal, earning it the label of "hard sci-fi-flavored apocalypse fiction."
