The Primordial Sword God is an Eastern fantasy novel by Piaoling Huan (real name Wang Shaowei), serialized on Qidian from October 20, 2014, and completed on September 8, 2016. It runs about 3.778 million Chinese characters in 1,415 chapters. The protagonist, Wu Chi, is at first a vulgar youth who wants only to drift through life, but after accidentally obtaining a sword of primordial inheritance he is drawn into the world of sword cultivation. Amid the succession crisis at Sword Shadow Manor and the seizure of a sword at Mount Tianshan, he gropes toward what the way of the sword means through repeated life-and-death trials; he is hardly elegant, yet is called the "Shameless Sword God," acting by no conventional rule while being, at heart, unbending. Set on a continent of another world, the novel interweaves Wu Chi's emotional entanglement with Zhou Boyan, daughter of the master of Sword Shadow Manor, and includes arcs such as the immortal mansion secret realm, the dark auction, and the contest over the divine sword Chengying; through depictions of sword qi made tangible and interacting with the natural environment, it presents the protagonist's growth from a street youth into a legend of the sword. The finale, "There Is Always Hope in the World," closes the whole with the image "a fleeting bloom, a sword eternal," landing on perseverance and true heart, "undefeated in this life." After completion, the author released a sequel set in the same world, The Strongest Villain Sword God.
