Heaven's Rebellion

Heaven's Rebellion is a long urban supernatural novel by the web author Er Gen. It was serialized on Qidian from May 18, 2009 to April 2010, totaling roughly 750,000 Chinese characters. The story unfolds across a vast land known as the Mother Empress Continent, where the powerful are legion and cultivators are ranked by their yuan power, while professions such as apothecaries and spirit-artifact masters each hold their own territory. The protagonist is one of many test subjects on Prison Island—a "failed product": among his muscles, bones, meridians, and brain, only one indicator barely meets the normal standard, so in everyone's eyes he is a thoroughgoing waste. Yet it is precisely this youth, judged useless, who by a twist of fate breaks free of Prison Island's cage, steps into the mortal world, and begins an extraordinary life. To survive on this perilous continent he must stay constantly wary and proceed with caution step by step; to stop being at others' mercy he must grow ever stronger. The work is built on a dual-track cultivation system—yuan power levels (one through fifteen, plus the Mortal Dust, Dao Peering, Void Breaking, Dominion, and Creator stages) alongside mental cultivation—interwoven with settings such as storage cards, living spirit-artifacts, and blood-forbidden arts. Centered on survival, growth, and defying heaven to change one's fate, it is a representative "trash-to-triumph" work from Er Gen's early period. The author himself specifically states that this book has no connection to his famous work Renegade Immortal; the similar titles are merely the result of reusing a name during writing.
