The Genius Diviner

The Genius Diviner is an urban supernatural web novel by the author Daofeng. It was first released on the XiaoxiangOLD platform on June 1, 2013, and later serialized on platforms such as Chuangshi Chinese Network, concluding on February 9, 2016. The book runs to about 4.34 million characters and more than 1,500 chapters, divided into five volumes: "Dunjia," "Five Arts," "Secret Society," "Diviner" and "Heaven's Number." The protagonist, Fan Jiannan, is the heir of the Fan family. Relying on his inherited special bloodline and half of the family's Dunjia Heavenly Book, he chooses to make his living by fortune-telling and divination, and is thus drawn into the hidden metaphysical underworld of the modern city. He judges worldly affairs by hexagram texts, deduces the course of fate through dunjia, defuses crises amid jest and banter, and through one incident after another touches the internal conflicts of interest within the "Five Arts People," the lineage-holder organization that commands metaphysical arts. Fan Jiannan appears flippant and cynical on the surface, carrying a hidden wound over his mother's death and opposing the involvement of the woman he loves in the feuds of the Five Arts People; Feng Yuan, from the Feng lineage, has a keen interest in Zhouyi divination and enters it to uncover the truth behind her parents' deaths. Set against the backdrop of traditional divination and blending elements of modern urban life, the work builds a wondrous world with a martial-arts flavor, and its overall style is light and humorous.
