The Gate of Great Rebellion

The Gate of Great Rebellion is an Eastern fantasy and otherworldly cultivation novel by the web novelist Zhi Bai, serialized on Zongheng Chinese from July 1, 2016, to its conclusion on June 15, 2018. It runs about 5.56 million characters and is divided into nine volumes: Long Dwelling in the Illusory World, Song of the Northern Yan, Trail of the Immortals in the Enchanted Realm, Survival in a Troubled Age, Roaming the Nine Heavens, The Great Thunder Tribulation, Realm of Nirvana, Revered in Another World, and The Battle of Reincarnation. The story follows its protagonist An Zheng: once one of the top powers of the continent's mightiest empire, in charge of the Bureau of Clear Law, he is lured into an ambush in the desolate mountains by a prince he trusted and killed; he is then reborn into the body of a frail youth, starting as an ordinary boy in the city of Long Dwelling in the Illusory World on Mount Cangman, and gradually sets out on the path of retraining and revenge. The world-building sets out two systems of cultivation realms, present-day and ancient: the former runs from Shengcui, Xumi, Qiuyu, Xiaoman, and Daman to Xiaotian and Datian, while the latter includes Initial Sage, Lesser Sage, Great Sage, Sage Sovereign, Sage Emperor, and on to Golden Immortal, Sage Immortal, and Immortal Emperor. Built around the core premise of "opening a gate and going against the ways of the world," and through An Zheng's principle of "repay kindness double, repay malice double," the book explores whether law restrains the good or the wicked, telling the story of an ordinary youth growing into a supreme being of heaven and earth.
