Summary
The Great Physician is an urban supernatural novel by web author Crazy Mouse, serialized on Qidian Chinese Network from August 2015 and completed in June 2016. It runs about 1.1275 million characters in over five hundred chapters. The story centers on a traditional Chinese medicine clinic. The protagonist, Mo Feng, was raised by his grandfather and built his TCM foundation through his grandfather's nearly ruthless training in "identifying herbs by smell, diagnosing by complexion, diagnosing by pulse, and applying needles blind." Before dying, his grandfather leaves a will: if Mo Feng wants to find his father, he must earn one hundred million yuan through honest TCM practice within three years. With this nearly impossible condition, Mo Feng leaves the clinic and enters a hospital and the broader medical world, using his real skills to handle difficult cases while running into the conflict between Chinese and Western medicine, medical ethics disputes, and tangled personal, workplace, and family grudges. The work revolves around the premise that "medicine and poison share the same source," stressing that "medicine can become demonic, herbs can become poison; needles can raise the gravely ill and kill invisibly": the same medical skill can save lives or become a lethal weapon. Beyond technical diagnosis-and-treatment plots, the novel adds supernatural medical skills, millennia-old grudges, and paranormal events, using episodes such as plague crises and family curses to portray a young physician's professional faith and moral choices, and finally closes with the protagonist's retirement from the world.
Editor's review

Reading tips
