Matt rushes underground and fights him, is swallowed by a giant monster, tears his way out through the creature's tongue using his keen senses, and then faces Mole Man in a confrontation among a pile of diamonds that is more conversation than combat. Both men are blind, and both cling to love for the dead: one for Lorna, the other for his father Jack Murdock. The issue also uses a conversation between Matt and Foggy Nelson to address the gap between "the old Matt" and who he is now, making it one of the finest issues in Waid's run for balancing action and emotion.
