Summary
This volume is issue #2 of Daredevil Volume 4 (the All-New Marvel NOW! series launched in 2014, originally titled Daredevil Vol. 4 #2), by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee. Matt Murdock and his partner Kirsten McDuffie have moved the practice from New York to San Francisco, and while adjusting to the new West Coast environment he fights local crime as Daredevil in cooperation with the mayor's office. Deputy Mayor Charlotte Haster visits with news: the old adversary Owl, Leland Owlsley, may be coming to the city. Just as Matt tries to make sense of this lead, a more immediate threat arrives: the long-fallen former hero Shroud, Maximilian Coleridge. Shroud is likewise blind, skilled in combat, and able to manipulate darkness, but his life has collapsed and with it his moral boundaries. This issue uses his room, memories, and a brief rooftop encounter to convey his downfall and pits two "blind fighters" against each other over territory. The story also plants an important thread concerning Foggy Nelson's illness, setting up later chapters of the volume. Throughout, Samnee's fluid, dynamic art and Javier Rodriguez's dark palette create an oppressive, somber West Coast atmosphere.
