Night Seals the Door

Night Seals the Door is a long supernatural horror novel by the web author Spade Eight, roughly 2.28 million characters in 770 chapters. It was serialized on Black Rock Reading and is now complete, with electronic rights held by Beijing Black Rock Information Technology Co., Ltd. and digital editions distributed on platforms such as Dangdang Cloud Reading. The book uses as its central hook the lines "Seven months pregnant, a woman is hounded to her death, and the seven-month live infant is thrown into a well. The wronged spirit's road is cut; the evil ghost counts its conscripts; the gate of hell opens, and the dark night seals the door." Beginning with an old affair involving a forced abortion, it unfolds a chain of eerie cases set in mountain villages and the countryside. The story centers on "I," the narrator. He lives in Hong Village, where only the Hong Qingsheng family remains; the Ma, Chai, and Chen families all moved in later. Why the Hong family vanished, and why there has never been a Hong grave in the village, become his first questions. As his investigation proceeds, he encounters the mysterious Cold Water Cave coffin site, hundreds of age-old coffins, a leather-jacketed stranger of unknown identity, the charlatan Huang Daxian whom villagers revere as a holy man, the elder Chen Jiutong, and Miaomiao, who can explain the theory of the three souls and seven spirits and of corpse reanimation. The book links rural funeral taboos, itinerant sorcerers, demonic possession, ghost mines, bewitchment, and gu poison into a chain of folk elements, letting the protagonist grope toward the truth through dense fog and, after several brushes with death, gradually touch the secret behind Hong Village. The pace is driven by suspense: the early chapters pile up mysteries, the later ones pay off the planted clues, and the story builds to a final battle over survival. It suits readers who enjoy rural supernatural tales, folkloric mystery, and narratives where the protagonist uncovers the truth alongside the reader.
