Avengers Vol. 8, Volume 4

This is Volume 4 of the Avengers Vol. 8 series. Written by Jason Aaron, the series is a new chapter of Marvel's flagship Avengers title after its 2018 relaunch (Avengers Vol. 8). Its opening event is "The Final Host": the three pillars of the Avengers—Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor—reunite to face the two-thousand-foot-tall Dark Celestials, the "Final Host," who intend to destroy humanity. As the series advances, the newly assembled Avengers split up: Black Panther and Doctor Strange fight deep underground, Captain Marvel deals with a disaster falling from the sky, and She-Hulk and the new Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes, appear in entirely new forms. Meanwhile, the old history of Odin and the "prehistoric Avengers" of a million years ago is revealed layer by layer, and Loki's position affects the whole situation. Volume 4 continues this main line, with the story unfolding across frozen ancient ruins, old Asgard, and Earth orbit, advancing around the question of how to fight the nearly omnipotent Celestials: on one side, the search for a key relic of the ancient past; on the other, preparations for the final battle. This volume is a mid-series installment that carries forward the previous threads and plants seeds for later ones; read on its own, it is best to first understand the basic setup of the opening event "The Final Host" for a fuller experience.
