The God of Fishing

The God of Fishing is an Eastern fantasy novel by the author A Pig That Howls Like a Wolf. It began serialization on Qidian in June 2019 and concluded on November 3, 2022, totaling roughly 10.01 million characters. The story is set on a planet covered by ocean: humans live suspended in the air, farming the sea and treating fish as spirits. At each coming-of-age ceremony, all children must undergo a fishing test, and only those with exceptional aptitude have any hope of becoming respected fishing masters. The endless seas hold fish that fly through the sky and burrow into the earth, turtles that absorb all the essence of heaven and earth, whales that swallow the world whole, and countless people who live by the fishing rod. "If you're not fishing, you're on your way to fish" is an old saying passed down here. The protagonist, Han Fei, is treasure-hunting at sea when a colossal force drags him to the ocean floor and he transmigrates into the body of a drowned youth, starting out as an ordinary fisherman in Tianshui Village. A mysterious demon-refining pot appears on his wrist, able to absorb the spiritual energy of all things and deduce and complete cultivation methods, through which he learns the ancient art of Void Fishing and gradually walks the path of proving the Dao through fishing. The book's arc runs from the fishing trial and study on the Floating Island to the Emerald Sea tournament and the founding of the Thug Academy, expanding to undersea secret realms, the Unknowable Land, the Water-Wood Thousand Stars, the Thirty-Six Mystic Heavens, and the struggle for supremacy over the sea realm, finally reaching the end of the starry sea, where Han Fei grows from a fishing-village boy into the Human Emperor who rules all races and achieves "transcendence" at the Guixu Altar. The work magnifies the real-life joy of fishing into a cultivation system: the fishing boat is the foundation of the Dao, the fishing line is divine sense, and the catch is opportunity. It is one of the largest and most representative works of the "fishing" subgenre of Eastern fantasy.
