This volume is the 16th volume of the Chinese edition of Marvel's original Transformers series, corresponding to issue 16 of the US Marvel main series, "Plight of the Bumblebee." The story revolves around Bumblebee, the smallest and least heavily armed warrior in the Autobot ranks. With internal divisions among Megatron's Decepticons making things difficult for the Autobots, Optimus Prime reminds his comrades to avoid acting alone. Bumblebee, overhearing this, takes it as a remark about himself; overcome by self-doubt, he leaves the group alone, hoping to find a quiet life in the human world. The Decepticon leader Shockwave concludes that Bumblebee is the easiest to exploit and prepares to install a control device on him. No sooner has Bumblebee struck out on his own than he is pursued by Laserbeak and the Decepticons; he hides in a parking lot but is driven off by two human teenagers out joyriding in a stolen car. A night of racing and fun with the teenagers gives Bumblebee his first taste of freedom; when the Decepticons attack again, he must choose: keep running, or fight for his comrades and his duty. Skyfire and Optimus Prime arrive in turn, and the melee ends with the Decepticons in retreat. This volume collects one complete main-series story, continuing the original comics' narrative tradition of "using character development to sell toys," and stands as one of Bumblebee's earlier solo coming-of-age chapters. It corresponds to episode 16 of the 80-episode main series and is best read in order.
